Many photographers will try to convince couples to buy enormous quantities of prints, albums, wraps, metal prints, coffee table books, and on and on. Before they know it they’ve bought thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff.
There’s another way. I know budgets matter and I respect that. I also know it’s not always the dollars but more importantly the value. Instead of quantity you can buy a few well thought-out, high quality items that, with minimal care, will last several lifetimes. These become family heirlooms and will have more value to you than anything else you own.
I will be happy to sell you a ton of stuff, don’t get me wrong! What most couples find most valuable and appropriate are:
- a high quality album that will last many, many generations
- a large framed photograph of you two and your kids from the wedding (looks great above a fireplace or couch)
- a couple medium sized photographs of just you two (living/family room, hallway, bedroom, office)
Frankly I’d rather you save the money on all the extras and hire me again to do family pictures in a year or two!
Sure there are some very nice extras that you can buy – mini albums for your parents, framed prints of some of the guests for you to give them as a thank you, etc. The bottom line for me is about meaning and purpose. I want for you to have and enjoy the memories of your wedding.
